Menstrual cramps, also known as menstrual pain and dysmenorrhea, are painful cramps in the abdomen and pelvic area associated with menstruation. As the name suggests, menstrual cramps often coincides with menstruation, but they can also precede menstruation by several days. Menstrual cramps can range from mild to severe and feature different kinds of pain including throbbing, nauseating, burning, and shooting pain.
